girl in red is the project of Marie Ulven (20) hailing from Horten, Norway. From starting in her bedroom teaching herself to play the guitar and piano and to produce her own music, in little more than a year the project has grown exponentially through her social media channels. She is also known for her explosive live performances.
2019 saw Marie release her second EP 'chapter 2' and her first ever run of vinyl aptly titled 'beginnings', which propelled her onto multiple sold-out headline tours across the US, UK and Europe selling in excess of 15,000 tickets; twice included in The New York Times' best songs of the year consecutive years running.
With a devoted community of over 1 million followers on her social media and heralded as the 'hero the decade needs' by the NME, there's little wonder she finds herself amongst many acclaimed ones to watch lists for 2020 including the Evening Standard, DIY, Dork, NME, Nylon and Clash.
Inspired by Marie’s own trials and tribulations with mental health and sexuality, her music and her character are equal in their honesty and authenticity. Maintaining a direct and regular relationship with her fans, Marie’s self deprivation and openness is brilliantly, though unintentionally, placed to deescalate and encourage sensitive and relevant conversations with her young fan base.
