Norwegian artists Hkeem, AURORA and Musti are playing a live stream concert in support for Amnesty’s work against police violence and racism.
“Please, I can't breathe. They're going to kill me.”
This was George Floyd’s (46) last words. When the policeman lifted his knee, Floyd was left lying lifeless on the ground. He was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead. Three other policemen witnessed the event without intervening.
George Floyd is the last victim in a long range of African Americans that is killed due to police violence. Racism against African Americans has made this group overrepresented among the victims of police violence in the US.
The tragic death has led to large protests in USA and the rest of the world. The streets and social media are filled with the same slogans:
Stop the killings of African Americans.
Stop the racism.
Stop the attacks on peaceful protesters.
Justice for George Floyd and this family.
Amnesty will follow the investigation and court case against the policemen involved in death of George Floyds closely.
Amnesty cooperates with other human rights organizations in the US to influence policy and attitudes in the American public. We have a long history of surveilling and researching police behavior worldwide and in the US.
The entry fee of 50 NOK (approx. 5 USD) will go towards Amnesty’s long-term work against police violence and discrimination.
